A night view of the Chicago Skyline from the tall ship Windy (a 148 ft schooner) sailing on the open waters of Lake Michigan (2011). The Navy Pier is to the right of the photo where (if you squint) you can see the ferris wheel.
I planted 10 blueberry bushes (four or five different varieties) a couple of years ago and now, with little effort at all, they provide a daily supply of healthy blue orbs. I had tried growing blueberry bushes at home in the ground for many years without success. The soil pH was never quite right and the soils were too poorly drained due to the high clay content. Frustrated but not defeated, I gave whisky barrels a shot and found that it is much easier to amend the soil and keep the blueberries happy in containers. It also proved much easier to relocate the berries this spring when I moved them to a sunnier location.
